If you need to create a new user, go to System Preferences -> Users & Groups, Give it a suitable name and password. Set Everyone to Read & Write if you don't want to use a username and password, otherwise you will need to create a new user just for SMBUp.

I have used worksharing before in a number of PC environements, but my partenr and I just upgraded to 10.8 Server and are running revit on VMWare. I'm very interested int he solution to this as well.

File servers come into play once worksharing is enabled on a file. Revit files even in a Windows environment is really intended to to save to the local machine only. That is really about running Revit at the “local” level. I can tell you Revit is not supported in any way in a Mac environment beyond running Windows in bootcamp or parallels.
